About Me

The textures, shapes and material qualities of found objects intrigue me. I find myself drawn to mechanical, rusted objects, pieces of fabric and household objects. I am interested in the juxtaposition of soft and hard and creating sculptures that question the material and function of an object. My sculptures are made intuitively, based on how I feel specific objects interact. A dominant part of my exploration is quilting; the idea of producing a narrative within a piece of work and the gathering of objects interests me. My work often relates to my childhood memories and my relationship with my father. My work seeks to push the boundaries between art and craft and challenge the material conventions associated with quilt making. Through my investigation of pattern, fabric and mechanical objects I am questioning the femininity of my work and the defining of masculine/feminine work in society particularly associated with craft and subject. Recent work explores techniques of weaving and has been inspired by poetry I have written based on my current feelings towards my life, relationships and my work. The industrial is still very much present in my new pieces.
